So Long, Farewell...

Google Reader, my love, we must now part.

Sigh.

You guys, until I get Feedly or something set up, the majority of my internet/tablet time has just been erased. Like, seriously. I love RSS feeds with a passion, hence all of the cheesy sentiment.

For those of you who don't know, Google, one of my favorite things ever, shut down it's RSS reader, Google Reader, on July 1st.

What's an RSS feed? Have you seen those little orange boxes with the white lines in them? RSS feeds help you keep track of your favorite websites and when they update. I use RSS feeds to track my favorite blogs, webcomics, manga, and even a couple of tumblr pages.

And trust me, over a year or two of using RSS feeds has left me with a LOT of feeds in my list.

Within the first twenty-four hours of Google announcing Google Reader's death sentence, a petition was set up and received the goal of ten thousand people. Yeah, Google didn't really care at all about that. We were told "So we know that some loyal users don't approve of our decision, but suck it because we're Google." Okay, they didn't phrase it like that, but it's certainly how I felt.

For those of you who are like me and don't really know what to do without RSS feeds in your life, or those of you who want to get in on the action, cloud.Feedly.com is my reader of choice. It's very simple to set up, and as far as I know, they still pull out your Google Reader data from your Google Account. If they don't, then find the Google Takeout for Reader, and import it into Feedly.

I really, sincerely hope that Google realizes how awesome RSS feeds are, and decides to reopen Google Reader. I mean, how many years did Google Wave stay active for? I don't even think it ever left the beta mode, and holy crap, as cool as Wave was, it was a bit redundant with Google Drive in some ways.

Hope everyone's doing well! Happy Fourth of July!
